My nomination papers for election to the Coop Party’s NEC have been validated. My election statement is copied out below, please support me so that I can continue our important policy development work,

Chris Bain, West Midlands Co-Op NEC Representative

“It has been one of the honours of my life to have served on the NEC as the West Midlands Representative. The NEC has achieved much that I am proud of; The increased role and prominence of the Equalities Networks, the raised profile of Local Government, the opening up of the NEC to external scrutiny. But there is much more to do.

The Coop Party has similarly gone from strength to strength with a growing membership, a record number of Labour & Coop Councillors, strong representation in Parliament, the Senedd and the Scottish Parliament. We also now have representation on the NEC from the Northern Ireland Coop Party.

I have been privileged to Chair the Policy committee and to have promoted initiatives such as a more inclusive policy development process, an all Nations approach to policy development, successful and inclusive regional events.

I have also been fortunate enough to have been elected on to the Labour Party’s Joint Policy Committee and the National Policy Forum where I have carried the Cooperative message into the heart of manifesto making in the Labour Party. But there is much more to do.

In my working life I am Chair of the Healthwatch movement across both East and West Midlands and I have some understanding of the context and challenges across both Regions. If you will vote me on to the NEC I will do all I can to promote the interests of both regions in the run up to the next General Election.”
