Christmas Message

2025 has been a year of great change in Tamworth. There are many reasons to be optimistic. We have seen a new future emerging for our Town Centre with the opening of the new College, the refurbishment of St Editha’s Square, the opening of the new retail outlets in Town Hall Place and the improved bridge access to the Castle and the Castle Grounds. We have also seen Pride in Place funding awarded to Glascote, the Heath and Stoneydelph – it will make such a huge difference to so many people in the years to come.

Despite all of this it must be acknowledged that our country has rarely felt more divided and troubled than it has in recent times, and the people of Tamworth are not exempt from those feelings. We have seen that inner conflict and anger reflected in social media posts, people making it clear that they feel unheard, that their concerns are not being taken seriously.

We must do all we can to address the negative perceptions that people have, respond to the all too frequent disinformation and misinformation that is being spread. We must prioritise bringing people and communities closer together. Work hard to make Tamworth a place where everyone who lives here can feel safe, valued and welcome.

My wishes for 2026 are that we reach out across races, faiths, and cultures to bring people together to share in the bright future that Tamworth has. Ensuring that no-one is left behind because of who they are or how they live their lives. To enshrine in our lives and communities the principle that we all have far more in common than that which divides us.

So as we gather with our loved ones, let this Christmas be a reminder to cherish the simple moments, spread kindness, and embrace the spirit of giving. Please be kind and respectful to everyone you meet, they may be facing struggles that you can’t see and know nothing about.
